High nervous activity in humans is dependent on the social environment that is reflected in associative the activity of their first (sensations and perceptions) and second (verbal) signal systems. Creation of a complete picture of the world in humans is a result of complex processes of the analysis, processing and storage of the information, modeling reactions of adaptation of the individual and management of its conditions and adaptive behavior.
It is known, that in the course of evolution, compounding adaptive behaviour of the human evolved due to transition from the principle “stimulus-reaction” dominating at the lowest organisms, to development of the adaptation type «stimulus – variants of reactions».
Any informational stimulus, i.e. signal about any internal and/or environmental change involves change of mental activity and necessary behavioural change for preservation of a homeostasis. The first exposure of sensory stimulus, without association with a context, immediately gets a significant meaning for the individual (positive, or negative), and is embodied in memory (imprinted). The process of imprinting is most active in so-called sensitive period of life. Imprinted during this period of life, this information serves as the base to construct inner representation of the world. Thus, establishing semantic meaning to all subsequent informational stimuli occurs as result of a random combination of any subsequent stimulus with initially imprinted stimuli to form various associative connections. Any perceived information immediately gets an associative network of already available psycho-semantic elements, thereby as though receiving a chain of address codes that help this information to be actualized (for example, realize. become aware). Therefore, memory can be simply present as self-organized systems consisting exclusively from psycho-semantic equivalents of all earlier received sensory stimuli. In cybernetics similar structures are defined as self-organized cognitive systems. Memory is continuous; perception, processing and information storage occur in any state as long as physiological functions of the morphological substrata, carriers of memory, are intact.
A number of studies show essential influence on a course of pathological processes of semantic stimulus (verbal and nonverbal received during social behaviour) and psycho-semantic elements (representing an internal picture of the world of the patient). We conceptually postulate: the most general (typical) pathological process for all mental (and psychosomatic) abnormalities are psycho-semantic disorders which are possible to present in the form of critical accumulation of errors of a data recording in a matrix (in this case the physical mechanism of record is not important– neurochemical code, sustained reverberation of excitation, etc.). Other studies have shown that matrixes of a long-term memory cannot be corrected by the psychoactive medications influencing only the mechanism of realization of behavioural programs. I.e. there are no pharmacological means of correction of fixed pathological engram or «pathological systems».
Pronged state (over 10-15 years) for people in chronic stress inevitably leads to decrease in reserves of human adaptation, declining the level of conscious and critical perception of environment and their own inner world.
The influence of long-term psychogenic factors, including the above mentioned, leads to negative changes of the higher nervous activity, development of reactions of mental subcompensation (neuroses) and decompensation (psychoses). Mostly the person in a state of chronic stress chooses non-constructive variants of psychological protection – withdrawal, illness resignation, fixation on the problem, aggression and self-aggression, habitual intoxicants (alcohol, smoking, drugs, psychopharmacological abuse).
The ability of the human mind, being essentially easily influenced, is increased in the absence of integrity of active perception, comprehensive logic analysis and critical evaluation in relation to life experience. Suggestibility makes the human mind even more defenceless before powerful psycho-destructive influences of mass media, commercial and political advertising. Negative information influences are inevitably transferred to the level of human delicate complex regulatory homeostasis systems accompanied by growth of functional and organic disorder of mental health.
The tendency for propagation of the use of psychopharmacological products in general clinical practice and in psychiatry inevitably swells complications and side effects, increasing the level of pharmacological dependence of the population.
The crisis of practical psychology is in the absence of the uniform concept for the nature of consciousness, methods of an objective evaluation of a personal mental state; inaccessibility of qualified experts in remote regions.
Statistical data suggests continued increase of negative tendencies in mental health of the world population including Canada, USA and many other countries. Processes of disintegration of economic space decrease in the general standard of living of the population inevitably cause reorganization of public consciousness and growth of social aggression. Social instability is one of the reasons for the increase of frequency of civil and military conflicts that in addition stimulates migratory processes and growth of criminality. During the last number of years there has been radical breakage of fundamental reference points in peoples’ lives, the hierarchy of vital values of people changes. The formed vacuum is inevitably filled with a sense of hopelessness and uncertainty in the future,
A significant part of the productive working population is socially marginalized and compelled to operate on the edge of their psycho-physiological reserves.
Increase of frequency of social and technogenic calamities, expectation of failure in interpersonal and intragroup relations, unawareness of a source of danger creates in the population a general environment of uncertainty, frustration, chronic psychological stress, intensification of anxiety and decline in the value of human life. The relay of negative processes in any society, either deliberately or unintentionally, is often the mass media, employees of which also are a part of the same unstable society. In turn, destructive social processes have negative influences on the mental health of the population, mirror reflecting and modifying the consciousness of the person, forming a vicious circle.
All this dictates the necessity of the development of new causative methods for psycho-correction, directed not only on updating behavioural acts, but also the capability to influence basic psycho-semantic systems of memory in humans, bypassing psychological barriers.
